 Welcome To The Blast/FX Portal

Blast/FX™ Explosive Effects Analysis Software was created by Northrop Grumman for the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) Systems Engineering Branch. The software was designed to meet the needs of security and engineering professionals concerned about the threat of explosions to facilities and their occupants.

Running on a PC under Windows® 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP, Blast/FX provides a stable and tested modeling environment that combines ease-of-use with modeling accuracy.

Blast/FX has been widely distributed to requestors throughout the U.S. government, civil aviation security agencies, and other authorized recipients. The software has been used as part of numerous security and vulnerability assessments to answer security improvement questions, evaluate alternative precautionary measures, and assist in establishing explosive threat security policies and procedures.

Request for feedback on beta version.

The Blast/FX team requests your comments on your experience with the  3.0 beta version.  You can reply to blastfx@ngc.com.  We will be sending out an email to all beta users requesting feedback soon, so if you're using the beta version please respond. We need your input to guide our enhancement process.

Node Locking is on the way.

What does that mean to you?  It means that updates can be downloaded from this site in the future.  It means better security.  It means a streamlined distribution process.

Node locking means the software is "locked" to a particular machine, we will give you a number that will unlock the software for your machine.  This will allow us to make the code available for download on this site, no more requesting upgrades.

Blast/FX 3.0 Beta is shipping!

We've had about 80 requests and shipped about 100 copies in October, THANKS!

Users who have a current or near-term need to model blast diffraction effects, such as blast walls or non line-of-site damage, should apply to receive a Beta copy of Blast/FX 3.0. The Beta is now shipping to selected users.

If your analysis works involves any of the following you will get improved results with the beta version:

  • External blast mitigation walls
  • Tall structures with a close-in external blast location
  • Shielded portions of structures (back, sides, roof, non line-of-sight)
  • Blast infiltration through windows/walls
  • Multiple or complex structures

Selection criteria for participation in the beta test include:

User experience. We will give first priority to our established users who may wish to re-run existing models or enhance existing models. These users will be able to provide the best feedback on the value of the enhancements or problems encountered.

Project priority and applicability. High priority requests, as always, will be expedited. If your request involves force protection or real-time decision making please indicate that in your request.

Agency sponsorship. Some agencies have more immediate needs than others, if you are associated with a high-priority agency make sure to let us know. Please remember, this is an unclassified site, if you must convey classified information please use appropriate channels.

Based on these criteria a limited number of Beta copies will be released. Feedback from Beta users is expected and encouraged.

We would appreciate it if you would include your primary goal in your request. Pick one or more from this list:

  • Force protection
  • Perimeter analysis (standoff)
  • External threat to structure/people
  • Internal threat to structure/people
  • Blast mitigation for existing structure
  • Generating response/exercise scenarios
  • Structural design analysis
  • Infrastructure protection
  • Security policy development
  • Progressive collapse analysis
  • Accidental explosion modeling

If we haven't included an appropriate category let us know, our user base is expanding into new areas and we need your feedback to ensure that we can meet your needs.
